The Sunday race had a bitter end with the burst of the left rear tyre on Kujala’s car at the last lap.
A hot summer day welcomed the cars on the racetrack for today intense sport activity in the amazing Alpine setting of the Redbull Ring.
The morning Race 2 Qualifying Session had, as protagonists, Milos Pavlovic and Florian Spengler. This was a drawn session with very narrow distances: 23 cars were within one second from the Pole Position. In this lottery the two Bonaldi Motorsport flagship drivers were given two unlucky tickets: despite leads of only 1”170 for Kujala and of 1”303 for Spengler, the two drivers conquered only the twenty-eighth and the thirty-first positions respectively.
The starting rearward positions forced the crews to set an aggressive race with high rhythms while daring since the very beginning of the race. The long line of the speeding start proceeded regularly: after the first lap, Pavlovic kept his position on his Lamborghini Huracán while Spengler lost one position during the crowded first lap. However, the two crews started to press and in the following laps they gained some positions: at the fourth lap, Pavlovic was placed twenty-seventh while Spengler twenty-ninth. Unfortunately, the need to recover positions had a great cost for the German driver who underwent an accident at the Remus Kurve. This accident forced him to drop out at the sixth lap.
The Serbian driver, instead, raced in safety gaining positions after positions and reaching firmly the twenty- second place. To reinforce the recovery the team strategists chose a late pit-stop at the twenty-first lap. Patrick Kujala got into his car with determination and went on with the work done by his team mate. After few laps and thanks to his masterful exploitation of two Safety Cars, he could reach the fourteenth position. When only last lap was missing, a wet blanket came: at the end of the main straight, on the Lamborghini Huracán no. 3 car, the left rear tyre burst. This was exactly what happened yesterday to his team mate Zonzini. A very unlucky weekend for the team from Bergamo finally ended.
