At the Nürburgring circuit the Italian-German crew recovered seventeen positions. Kujala was out in the first part of the race due to a rear ending by Hamprecht.
A hot sunny weather welcomed the Bonaldi Motorsport yellow cars for both Qualifying Practice and Race 1 of the fifth round of ADAC GT Master this Saturday.
The morning Qualifying Practice was not happy for the Italian team: despite his disadvantage of less than a second, Patrick Kujala could place his Lamborghini Huracán only on the seventeenth position while its twin car placed on the thirtieth position due to some little problems to the equipment.
As to this starting situation, both the crews were forced to set up an attack race looking for any occasions to recover positions. Kujala did not perform a lucky start and during the first lap he was forced to leave three places. As to Zonzini, his first lap was amazing and he could gain ten positions. Both the crews could keep the rhythm of the race and the positions till the beginning of the fifth lap when a Bentley car, driven by Hamprecht, could not slow at the first braking and rear-ended a totally guiltiness Kujala who was starting the curve. The damage to his Lamborghini made him leave the race and the Safety Car was obliged to join the race to remove the car from the Italian team. The Safety Car neutralised the race for five laps during which Zonzini took advantage of a problem to a tyre of a BMW car and reached the nineteenth position.
No surprises came when the race started again but during the following lap the Safety Car joined the racetrack again because of an accident which occurred between an Audi car driven by Stoll and the one driven by Geipel. Zonzini was seventeenth and during the lap of the restart he reached the sixteenth position. At this point the Pit Stop was compulsory for the flagship crew of Bonaldi Motorsport during the eighteenth lap. Unfortunately, on his way to the racetrack, Spengler was slowed down by other cars. In fact, at the end of the drivers’ turnover, the German driver lost three positions compared to the position gained by Zonzini before the pit stop. A car, which stopped on the racetrack, allowed Spengler to recover the eighteenth position but the Safety Car was needed again for a unique lap. At the restart, the German driver was seventeenth and performed a challenging fight against Delatraz’s BMW. An accident to three cars at the last chicane recalled the Safety Car again. After four laps leaded by the Safety Car, the race started again and Spengler raced aggressively and thanks to this and to the desertion of some drivers, he reached the thirteenth place with a disadvantage of only 12”695 from the leader. Taking into consideration all stops due to the Safety Car, the Italian-German crew performed a small marvel gaining seventeen positions from the race start.
